SWG Information

Star Wars Galaxies (SWG) is probably the best MMORPG I have ever played. The one unique aspect about SWG that amost no other MMORPG has is a living, breathing economy. This is a game that will take even the greatest masters of RPG games much time to understand and live in. This game is not a game that can be won or beaten, it is another world in which the player lives in. The only way it can possibly end is when the player feels he/she has accomplished all that they set out to do.

This game differs greatly from World of Warcraft, City of Heroes and Lineage 2 because of its economy. Those 3 MMORPG's I mentioned above are good games (having Beta tested them all myself) however, they severly lack in their non combat aspects. The crafting systems in those games are primitive and generic. In SWG the crafting system is what enables the game to have an economy. Because of the different qualities of the hunderds of types of resources in SWG, the quality of weapons, armor, medpacks, and spaceships are all dependent on the quality of the materials used to make them. It is this sole factor that drives people to set up shops with their goods that they make to sell to people at different prices due to the effectiveness and quality of their pieces, this is what the basis of an economy is.

Also, the Jump to Lightspeed expansion for SWG truly gives each player a realy Star Wars feeling. Driving around in your own ship looking at the stars, planets, and beautiful nebulae utilizing the stunning graphics of the game, you are tuly moved to another world. The fact that you could own a multiplayer ship where you are the pilot, and your friends can be gunners and co-pilots in realtime space combat is another incredible example of the teamwork this game has. Another great aspect of this game is that the concept of "levels" do not exist. My friend who plays World of Warcraft is at the maximum level of level 60. He has been playing the game for 2 months and is already essentially done. I have been playing SWG for 2 years and still enjoy it with loads more to do because of the new content that is added periodically by the developers every couple of weeks or so. In SWG we have proffessions in which you gain commands and skill modifiers. This unique system of skills and proffessions eleminates the dead end of a "master skill level". However once you get all the skills of your proffession you do gain a mastery badge of that proffession. Now with the addition of the Combat Upgrade (CU) combat is more balanced and exciting. Also with the new expansion, Rage of The Wookiees (ROTW) players now have an entirely new frontier of exploration, quests, fun, space adventures, and quest rewards at their disposal along with new lush secenry.

One more point to make about this game is simply, it is not a game for everyone. In order to successfully master and enjoy the game you must be a person of patience. If you are one of those "give me a gun and let me kill everything that moves" type of people then you will not enjoy this game. People must understand that in order to like this game you must remember it is not just a game, it is an entirley different world. If you just want to kill everything in site please go play Halo, if you want to live in a world full of adventure, wonder, and friendship please give Star Wars Galaxies a chance and witness it for yourself. Whether you choose the harmonious life of crafting and business, a fun filled action packed life of battle and contest of skills between the two factions: Imperial and Rebel, or the hybrid life of combat and non combat role or a support role type of player, galaxies has it all from Architects to Bounty Hunters, if you dream it, you can do it.
